Frequently Asked Questions

ABOUT LINJER

1. What is Linjer?

Linjer is an independent jewelry brand founded in 2014 by Jennifer Chong and Roman Khan, headquartered in Hong Kong. We create our own jewelry designs, produce our own photos and videos and hold inventory in warehouses in Dallas, Texas (serving the US) and Hong Kong (serving the rest of the world). We ship to 36 countries, and every jewelry purchase is backed by a two-year warranty against manufacturing defects. You may have seen Linjer’s crowdfunding campaigns for leather bags and watches, which we no longer actively produce. Linjer and its products have been featured in various press outlets like InStyle, The Wirecutter, Vogue Australia, and more. Linjer also has an “Excellent” rating on Trustpilot.

Recently, we’ve received questions about whether Linjer is a dropshipper because some unauthorized websites have used our images and videos without permission. Linjer is not a dropshipping company. These websites are infringing our copyright and are likely to be scams. We strongly advise against purchasing from them. Linjer actively reports fake shops, though unfortunately, new ones do appear from time to time.

2. Who owns Linjer?

Linjer is independently owned by its founders, Jennifer Chong and Roman Khan, a Canadian-Norwegian couple who started the company in 2014.

3. Why is Linjer so much cheaper than traditional jewelry brands?

Because Linjer sells directly to you. Traditional fine jewelry passes through wholesalers and retailers, and each step adds markup before it reaches the customer. Linjer designs jewelry in-house, works directly with manufacturing partners in Thailand and China — the same factories that produce for leading jewelry brands — and sells only through linjer.co, so comparable pieces cost much less than what a traditional retailer charges. The materials are the same ones used in traditional fine and demi-fine jewelry: solid 14k gold, solid 10k gold, 925 sterling silver, gold vermeil, lab grown diamonds, and AAA-grade freshwater pearls, and every piece is backed by a two-year warranty.

4. Do you have any stockists/physical stores?

We sell through our website only; this is how we're able to sell luxury-quality products at a fraction of the price of traditional luxury brands. We know that nothing compares to seeing something in real life though. If you'd like to get more of a sense of a particular product, you can check out our product pages, go on Instagram and search the tag #linjerco or images tagged @linjerco, or search online for other images or videos of our products. You can also contact our team ([email protected]) with any questions you have!

5. Where is Linjer jewelry made?

Our jewelry is manufactured in Thailand and China. We care a lot about sustainability and doing right. We screen all of our suppliers to ensure that their values are consistent with ours. We look for clean and safe working environments and observe how employees are treated. We have personally visited and tested over dozens of factories, choosing partners that have a long-term approach with their employees. This not only results in better working environments for the employees, but also a staff of organized and highly trained teams who can consistently make high-quality products with care.

6. Is Linjer a sustainable brand?

Sustainability is a core value of Linjer! Our sustainability efforts in jewelry focus on longevity and responsible sourcing. We craft our pieces with the highest quality materials, including recycled gold and silver whenever possible. We use ethically sourced diamonds that are lab grown and conflict-free and we select FSC-certified paper and recycled materials for our packaging. In addition, we offset the carbon emissions from every shipment on our webshop, without any additional cost to our customers.

7. Where can I read reviews of Linjer?

You can read verified customer reviews on Linjer product pages. We also have reviews on Trustpilot with an average rating of 4.7.

MATERIALS & QUALITY

1. Is Linjer jewelry real gold?

Yes. All Linjer jewelry is made of solid gold or sterling silver as the base metal, and every product page indicates which one the item is made of:

  • Solid 14k gold: 58.3% pure gold, alloyed with other metals for hardness and color
  • Solid 10k gold: 41.7% pure gold, alloyed with other metals for hardness and color
  • Gold Vermeil: a base of 925 sterling silver plated with a layer of gold at least 2.5 microns thick. US FTC regulations require at least 2.5 microns of plating for jewelry to be called vermeil; Linjer's meets or exceeds that standard — about 5x thicker than typical "gold-plated" jewelry and roughly 100x thicker than flash-plated fashion jewelry.
  • 925 Sterling Silver: 92.5% pure silver, alloyed with 7.5% other metals for strength. We plate our silver-tone pieces in rhodium for extra shine and durability.

We do not use brass, copper, or stainless steel bases.

2. Will Linjer jewelry tarnish?

Any sterling silver jewelry can naturally tarnish over time — the metal reacts with sulfur in the air and on skin, forming a dark film on the surface. Some conditions accelerate tarnishing in jewelry, such as high humidity, contact with water (like swimming, showering), and contact with sweat and personal care products. You can polish off tarnish with a polishing cloth; you can purchase polishing cloths on our webshop. Read our Jewelry Care Tips for more information.

Linjer's silver-tone jewelry is plated in rhodium, a precious metal that doesn't tarnish, so our pieces are protected against tarnishing far longer than untreated sterling silver. Regular wear and dry storage can prevent tarnish.

Solid gold jewelry does not tarnish in the way that silver or plated jewelry does.

3. Will Linjer jewelry turn my skin green?

Skin discoloration ("green fingers") is caused by copper and brass bases, which Linjer does not use.

4. Are Linjer's diamonds real?

Yes. Linjer uses lab grown diamonds, which are chemically, physically, and visually identical to mined diamonds. Lab grown diamonds are made of crystallized carbon and have the same hardness and brilliance as mined diamonds. The only difference is the origin: lab grown diamonds are grown in a controlled laboratory environment rather than in the earth. That means that every stone is guaranteed to be conflict-free, and that we can price our diamond products significantly lower than mined diamond products.

The vast majority of our diamond products have DEF color and VS-VVS clarity. This is our current standard, although some older stock has GH color and SI clarity. Specifications are listed on the relevant product pages.

5. What kind of pearls does Linjer use?

Linjer uses AAA-grade freshwater pearls — the highest grade on the freshwater scale, selected for luster, surface quality, and shape.

6. Do you have a warranty?

Yes, we have a warranty! We guarantee your jewelry pieces to be free of any manufacturing defect for two years from the date of purchase. The warranty does not cover general wear, damage caused by accident, misuse, neglect or failed repair attempts. The warranty does not cover purchases made using online auction sites or other unauthorized resellers.

If you believe your jewelry has a manufacturing defect, please email us at [email protected] and someone from our customer service team will assist you. Read more on our Warranty page.

7. Can I shower, swim, or sleep in my Linjer jewelry?

Solid 14k gold handles daily wear, including water, though we recommend removing it before swimming in chlorinated pools or salt water. Gold vermeil and sterling silver should be kept away from water, sweat, perfume, and lotion to prevent tarnish — take these pieces off before showering, exercising, or sleeping. Store all jewelry dry, ideally in the pouch or box it came in. You can find more instructions in our Jewelry Care Guide.

8. How do I clean my jewelry?

For solid gold and diamond pieces: soak in warm water with a drop of mild dish soap, brush gently with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth. For gold vermeil and sterling silver: wipe gently with a dry, soft cloth after wear. Avoid water, chemical dips, and abrasive cloths, which wear down plating. We do not recommend using ultrasonic cleaners for plated jewelry (including our gold vermeil and silver jewelry), or any jewelry containing gems. Full instructions are in our Jewelry Care Guide.

PLACING ORDERS

1. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept a number of payment methods on our secure checkout including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners, Paypal and Apple Pay. We also offer various local payment methods depending on your country. You will be able to see which payment methods are available as you check out.

2. Do you offer customization?

Linjer offers engraving on select products. Linjer does not offer the service of creating designs according to customer specifications.

3. Do you offer gift wrapping?

Linjer products are shipped in gift-ready packaging, so you can ship gifts directly to the recipient knowing that they'll arrive in beautiful packaging. You can also add a free gift message to your Linjer order on the cart page. Read more on our Packaging page.

4. How do I find my ring size?

The most reliable method is to measure a ring that already fits: measure its inner diameter in millimeters and match it to our size chart. You can also wrap a strip of paper snugly around your finger, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length flat. Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are largest, and size up if you're between sizes. Our Ring Size Guide has the full conversion chart and a printable sizer.

5. Does Linjer resize or repair jewelry?

Linjer does not offer a resizing or repair service at this time. If your piece has a manufacturing defect, it is covered by our two-year warranty — email us at [email protected] and our team will repair or replace it. For ring sizing, check our Ring Size Guide before ordering and our Linjer ring sizer which we offer at cost. Fit issues are handled as standard returns within the 30-day window.

5. What does "Made to Order" mean?

Some Linjer pieces are made to order: our factory’s artisans make them after you place your order. Made to Order items take 4-15 business days to produce and ship from Hong Kong separately from any in-stock or pre-order items in your order. The expected production time is listed on each product page.

Made to Order pieces are not considered customized items and can be returned under our standard 30-day return policy. If you add engraving to a Made to Order piece, it can still be returned, subject to a US$25 fee.
